Oxfam is a global movement, based-in Oxford, England, consisting of more than 20 independent charities from around the world, working together to end the injustice of poverty. Founded in 1942, the organization confronts the issues that keep people poor: inequality, discrimination, and unequal access to resources including food, water, and land. While simultaneously holding the powerful accountable for actions, or lack thereof, they also help save lives in disasters and helping them build stronger futures for themselves. They feel that everyone has a right to a sustainable livelihood, and equal access to basic social services. Moreover, they feel everyone has the rights to life and security, to be heard, and most importantly – everyone has a right to an identity. They also feel no one should ever go hungry. They feel all of these conditions are simple to meet, and through human action and political will, poverty and powerlessness are avoidable and can be eradicated. The organization is funded through donation, as well as through revenue generated from products sold through their online store.
