The Freecycle Network is a non-profit organization founded-by a man named Deron Beal in 2003, which coordinates a network of “gifting” groups focused-on diverting reusable goods from landfills. An entirely grassroots movement, their mission is to build a worldwide sharing movement that reduces waste, eases the burden placed-upon landfills, which ultimately contributes to preserving natural resources. As it is, everything is free including membership; however, everything listed must be done so for free. Groups are operated-by volunteer moderators and members either give or receive items with one another to continue to further the movement. Since its inception, Freecycle has since spread to more than 110 countries, with thousands of local groups that represent millions of members. As a result of their efforts, they’re currently keeping over one thousands tons of reusable items out of landfills each day. By freely donating what is otherwise one’s trash with no strings attached, members of The Freecycle Network help instill a sense of generosity as they promote environmental sustainability and reuse. People from all over the world have joined together to turn trash into treasure and to make the world better.
